Love X Hate?

A point to ponder from a book I just finished reading- The Secret of the Nagas by Amish T. Yes, I know I hopped into the Shiva Trilogy a tad too late.

The opposite of love is not hate. Hate is just love gone bad.The actual opposite of love is apathy. When you don’t care a damn as to what happens to the other person.

Do you agree?

  1. If love is about remembering someone always, hate is not opposite. Even when you hate someone, you remember but just the bad part of them. In that sense apathy is preferable.

Apathy could be “hate gone good”. You started ignoring the person you hated once. After all you have to do that one day!

  2. Absolutely correct.. These words perfectly give shape to the thoughts.. How true..apathy is the opposite of love.. I thought it was indifference.. Anyway, both hurts

    • @LG- Ditto. But like Thillai’s perspective below..

@Thillai- Interesting perspective. In that sense, I’d prefer apathy too.

@Saravana- I think we inflict more pain upon ourselves with hate than apathy, no?

@ RM – I think it is. I’ve always felt ignoring to be the best answer to many situations. But could never put together the thought so coherently:)

@Ashreyamom- Try and let me know if you agree.

  3. Vidya…when I read this book, I also wanted to do a post like that, but was lost in the absolute madness which ruled my life for sometime.

And I agree with this totally 🙂 Its my kind of logic, so I just loved it !!!
